NYSC WITH ALICE
EPISODE 16 (Not edited)
Fehintola took Alice back to her hostel in the evening as if nothing happened, Alice was back to her lost state as this was part of the plan. They greeted Miss Tope, and Alice went into her room.
"How was it?" Tope asked in a rush.
"She was mute as usual, she refused to talk," Tola answered, "I wonder what's wrong with her"
"Hmmm... I seriously don't understand her" Tope said.
"Bastard!" Tola swore under her breath.
"It is well, I need to go now. Thank you, ma'am." Tola announced.
"Alright ma, till Monday" Tope smiled.
On her way to the lodge, she kept imagining what kind of person Tope was.
"Why do a thing like that?" she thought.
Three days earlier, when she told the principal about her decision to go out with Alice, he had referred her to Tope and she acted like she cared for those girls.
"Who would have thought she's the one behind the girl's problem."
She thought of the physical and psychological pain the girl has been through and tears flow down her face.
She suddenly flashed back to what she went through in the hands of her father's driver.
******* ******* *******
Adewale had just finished dressing that morning when he saw Fehintola sitting and staring at her food at the dining table.
"Sweetheart," He said as he fondly calls her.
"Yes Dad" Tola answered
"You aren't eating your food," Adewale said
"Yes, I'm not hungry" She replied.
"That's not true, remember you told me, your teacher said you shouldn't miss your breakfast except you're fasting," Adewale said.
"Yes, but I'm not just hungry today," She said
"Something is bothering you, you know you can talk to Dad about it," Adewale said taking a seat beside her.
"I want you to drive me to school," Tola said
"Why? Did Uncle Jude beat you?" Adewale asked.
"No, I just want you to drive me to school"
"My, baby you know what? I will drive you to school tomorrow, but I'm running late already or do you want dad to get fired?"
"No"
"Good, Uncle Jude will take you to school, I will tell him to drive slowly okay?" He said patting her on the back.
"Okay Dad," she said with tears in her voice.
"Come on, don't cry, remember you're a big girl, and you know big girls don't cry," He said petting her. "Are you going to eat now?"
"Yes Dad," she said reluctantly.
"That's my girl"
She ate the food reluctantly even though it had no taste in her mouth, her mind was fixed on what would face on her way to school.
Her school was 15 minutes drive from her house, and they had barely driven for five minutes when Jude parked by the roadside on a lonely path where no one will see them luckily for him, the car glasses are tinted, and he went to the back of the car.
"Uncle Jude, please I don't want to do it" Tola cried.
"Please, I will take it easy please" Jude begged.
"It's painful, I don't want to" she cried.
"Please now, I won't let it pain you this time, I promise you" Jude continued to beg till he had his way while Fehintola continued crying.
Fehintola became withdrawn, she was always indoor which was on like her, it started affecting her school grades she went from first position to fifth position, then to tenth till she started coming last.
Adewale became afraid, and after doing everything within his power to bring back his daughter's normal state proved abortive, he decided to consult a child psychologist.
"Hi, my name is Nike," The psychologist said smiling at her.
"I'm Fehintola," Tola answered not smiling.
"I want you to do me a favour, will you?" Nike asked.
"What's that?" Tola asked.
"Will you be my friend?" Nike asked maintaining her smile. Tola went mute.
"Talk to me Fehintola"
"I don't need friends, I'm fine being alone," she said.
"When I was young like you, I used to hallucinate, I see things beyond the physical, strange, and scary creatures and when I see them I scream no matter where I am," Nike paused, she noticed Tola was listening, she continued.
"After sometimes my headmistress told my parents to withdraw me, that I'm distracting other students from learning. This happened in five other schools and I had to stop schooling, this made me to become moody and withdrawn just like you" Nike said.
"So what happened?" Tola asked.
"Did she just talk?" Nike thought, she was happy to get the girl's attention.
"My parents took me to church and we prayed till I got delivered and I went back to school" she smiled.
"Hmmm..." Fehintola sighed.
"What happened?" Nike asked.
"Your parents care about you," She said.
"Just like yours" Nike was happy she was flowing.
"You think so?" Tola asked, looking at Nike from the corner of her eyes.
"I don't think so, I know or is there something they're doing that you don't like? I can talk to them"
"Big mummy has been doing great, but dad doesn't care about me, he loves his job more, I told him to be driving me to school, he only promises he will but he never fulfils his promise"
"Oh! But you know Dad has to work so he can put food on your table and as well pay your school fees" Nike said.
"Taking me to school does not stop that, does it?" Tola asked standing on her feet.
"But why don't you want your driver to take you to school instead that's why he was employed," Nike asked.
"Hmmm..." Tola sighed and curled back to the corner of her bed where she has been sitting before Nike came.
"What's wrong? Is there something he does to you on your way to school?" Nike asked.
"Nothing" Tola answered too fast for anyone to believe.
"So why don't you want him to take you?"
As little as Tola was, she knew with the way the conversation was going she might end up saying what she doesn't want to say.
"I will like to sleep now, we will continue next time," Tola said and slide under her duvet before Nike could object.
What kind of girl is this? Nike wondered. "Okay, bye dear, have a nice day," Nike said standing up from Tola's bed.
"And you too," Tola said without looking back.
Nike left Tola's room.
"Any luck?" Adewale asked the moment Nike entered the sitting room.
"None yet" Nike answered taking her sit on the couch.
"Oh, my God!" Adewale said relaxing on the chair with his hand on his forehead.
"But she said some things" Nike started.
"What's that?" Adewale sat upright to hear.
"How often do you create time for her?"
"I create time for her, we talk every night, we discuss her school, friends, and teachers and I also tell her about my office and colleagues, and on weekends, I take her out. I create enough time for her" Adewale answered.
"Well, it seems that's not enough for the little girl, she wants more," Nike said.
"How?" Adewale confused.
"Can you drive her to school every morning before going to work?" Nike asked.
"Is that the reason why she's been moody to the point of failing exams?" Adewale asked surprised.
"Hun... I don't think that's the real reason, something must have brought about the reason" Nike said.
"Something like?" Adewale asked.
Nike looked around to see if anyone is hearing their conversation.
"No one is around, you can say whatever you want to say" Adewale answered.
"What of your driver and security?"
"They are outside and the door is soundproof, no one outside can hear what is being said inside"
"Okay, I think Tola is being sexually abused" Nike whispered to Adewale and the latter was shocked.
"And who do you think could be doing this?" Adewale asked.
"Your driver" Nike dropped.
Adewale laughed so loud that Nike got offended.
"I'm sorry," He said still laughing "Jude can't do that, I trust him."
"You do?" Nike asked.
"Yes, I trust him with my life, he's the only worker that's allowed to enter my room, he's the only one that knows my ATM password, I've tested him with many things and he has proved himself to be trustworthy. So just forget about it, he can't do such" Adewale said with so much confidence.
"Mr Adewale" Nike called. "Trust no one, haven't you heard of fathers sleeping with their daughters? How much more a driver? Pedophiles are everywhere, in the neighborhood, in your children's school, in your church, even in your house, so I will advise you to do something about it or let someone watch him" Nike advised.
"Okay, I will do as you say, but I know Jude can't do something like that," Adewale said with all seriousness.
"I would like to take my leave now"
"Okay, thank you very much ma." Adewale saw her off, paying no attention to her advice.
