The judge enters the court.

"Let the court rise," the court clerk said and everyone stood up.

"You may be seated," the judge said.

"My Lord, this is the case of Mr Ryan and Mr Anim, who was charged for molesting a school girl and Miss Tope who was an accomplice to Mr Ryan," the court clerk read.

"I'm Kemi, my appearance is for the  Complainant"

"I'm Joshua, my appearance is for the Defendants"

 The lawyers introduce themselves, and then the trial begins.

The prosecuting counsel started, 

"At exactly 10 a.m. on 22nd of July 2022, Mr Ryan, Miss Tope and Mr Anim were charged under section 218-222 of the criminal code. My Lord, I would like to invite my first witness," Barrister Kemi, the prosecuting counsel said.

"You may go ahead," the judge answered.

"Thank you My Lord, Miss Fehintola, you may come to the witness box," 

The clerk came forward to place the Defendant on Oath "Are you a Christian or a Muslim?"

"Christian," Tola answered 

"I, mention your name" 

"I, Fehintola Adewale" 

"Swear to this honourable Court, the evidence I shall give before this honorable court shall  be nothing but the truth, so help me God,"  the court clerk read and Tola repeated.

"Miss Fehintola, what happened at 8 p.m. on the 21st of  July 2022?" Barr. Kemi asked, "Can you give this honourable Court a little of the information just the way it happened that night?"

"I was in my room resting when Alice's call came in that Ryan is about to take her away, and that was not the first time she will be taken away" She paused.

"I ran out, took a bike and went to the hostel. Luckily for me Ryan's car is still parked outside the hostel..." she was interrupted by the defense counsel.

"Objection my lord!" Barrister Joshua, the defence counsel stood up.

"Objection overruled," The judge said.

"Thank you, my Lord," the prosecuting counsel said. "What happened after that?" she asked facing Tola.

"I followed Ryan's car with the bike and we got to his house, I waited for him to enter with the girl, then I located his window..." she was interrupted again by the defence counsel.

"Objection my lord!" the defence counsel came again.

"Objection overruled," The judge said.

"You can continue Miss Fehintola" Barr. Kemi said.

"I went close to the window and recorded everything that transpired that night," Tola concluded her story.

"My Lord, this proves that Mr Ryan is guilty of the offence therefore I have no question to ask," the prosecuting counsel took her seat.

"Defence counsel do you have any cross examination?" the judge asked.

"Absolutely my lord, the Witness said she followed the accused to his house and located his window, how did she get into the compound? Everyone seated here knows that Mr Ryan leaves in a very big house with securities all around the place. How did you get into the compound without being stopped by the Securities? Or did you jump the fence?" Barrister Joshua asked Tola.

"Securities? I didn't see any security, the house was not even fenced," Tola answered.

"Then you followed the wrong person, Mr Ryan leaves in a fenced house or did you cook up the story just to implicate him," the defence counsel asked.

"I am one hundred percent sure I followed Mr Ryan, I saw him take Alice into his car, and I followed him," Tola answered.

"What is the colour of the car?"

"Red"

"Mr Ryan owns a gold car, so your allegations are wrong Miss, I put it to you that you're jealous of my clients and you want to implicate him" He faced the judge.

"My Lord, I think there's a misconception in this whole thing or should I say it's an intentional act, the house and car described in this story do not belong to my client, so I beg you to please look into it carefully," He took his seat.

"Prosecuting counsel, are you ready for Re-Examination?" the judge asked.

"No, My Lord, permit me to call the second witness" Barr. Kemi said.

"Yes you may," The judge said.

"Officer James, come forward to The Witness box" Barr. Kemi said.

The court clerk came forward and Officer James swore an oath.

"Officer James, what information do you have concerning this case?" the prosecuting counsel asked.

"On the 22nd of July 2022, Miss Tola came to report a school teacher who was sleeping with his students, we agreed to meet at the school hostel once the student calls." He paused.

"At exactly 8 p.m. on the 23rd of July 2021, Miss Tola's call came in and we went to the school, we found Mr Ryan leading a female student into his car, we arrested him and took him to our station together with the hostel mistress

On getting to our station, we made further investigations, we found out that Alice was down with malaria and the hostel mistress who didn't know what to do had called Mr Ryan to come help take her to the hospital, it was at that point that we got to the school and arrested him, while Miss Tola took the girl to the hospital the next day," The Policeman concluded his story.

"What?!" Tola gasped, she covered her mouth to prevent anyone from hearing her.

"Geila is a very big school, it's one of the biggest schools in this city, if not the biggest, and I learnt the school has a sick Bay and also school buses, so why should the house mistress call a school teacher by 8 p.m. to come to take a student to the hospital?" the prosecuting counsel asked officer James.

"Objection my Lord!" the defence counsel stood up

"Objection sustained!" the judge answered.

The prosecuting counsel took her seat. 

"Thank you, my lord," the defence counsel started,

"I think my colleague is only trying to ask irrelevant questions to suit her claims, we all know sick bays and school buses only work during school hours and the time we are talking about here is 8 p.m., Mr Ryan is not just a school teacher, he is a son to the proprietress of the school, so he should be called upon if anything goes wrong and as a good man that he is, he decided to take the student to the hospital himself. 

We all know Mr Ryan is a very rich and influential man if he wants sex, he has money to pay as many as possible ladies to come to his house, he won't stoop so low to have sex with a secondary school girl. On this note, I rest my case," the defence counsel took his seat.

"I hereby adjourn this case to the 16th of next month for continuation of hearing," the judge said "I rise"

"Court!" The clerk shouted

Everyone stood up and the judge entered into his chamber.
