NYSC WITH ALICE

EPISODE 2 (Not edited)

They entered the house, it’s a two-flat bungalow with three bedrooms each, the male corper took one while the ladies took the other.

“Good day, sisters” The guy greeted and the ladies responded.

“She needs a room, I don’t know if anyone is willing to share her room with her”

“Hmm, she’s beautiful, I would have loved to share, but we are already two,” a lady said

“What’s your name and what state are you from?” another lady asked

“I’m Fehintola  Adewale, I’m from Osun state” She answered

“You are Yoruba?!” She jumped up happily “Do you understand Igbo?” She asked again

“No” Fehintola laughed surprised at the question.

“Joseph, thank you, I’m willing to share my room with her” The second lady smiled.

“You don’t have to be over joyous, she’s not Hausa” another lady teased.

“At least she’s not Igbo” she answered back.

The guy that brought her laughed at the ladies' drama.

“Joseph if you know how I’ve suffered in the hands of these ladies, they will be speaking Igbo when they know that there’s someone here that doesn’t understand Ibo, it’s so annoying," she said eyeing the other girls while they laughed.

Joseph tried not to laugh “You can’t tell them not to speak their language, when we meet someone that understand our language, we prefer to speak it, because we express ourselves better in our language than this borrowed language we are speaking, there are still something that you can say in Hausa that you won’t able to speak in this, English” He explained.

“I know, but they should be considerate, instead of this everyday Ibo”

"That's an exaggeration, we don't speak Igbo all the time," another lady said.

“If there is a Hausa lady here, you would have done the same,” said the eldest among the ladies.

“That’s not true” the Hausa lady disagreed.

“You people should stop, there is a newbie here,” Joseph said trying to call them to order.

“I’m sorry,” The Hausa girl said facing Fehintola.

“No offense, I'm actually enjoying the show” Fehintola smiled.

“Let me call the guys, so we can all introduce ourselves,” Joseph said, then he face Fehintola.
“Please have your seat”

“Thank you, sir,” Fehintola said sitting down and Joseph went out.

The guys came in and they all took their seats.

“We have a new corper among us” Joseph started and they all clapped

“You are welcome” They all chorused

“Thank you” Fehintola answered happily.

“So, we will be introducing ourselves, you will tell us your name, state of origin, your hobby, what you studied in the university, and what you want us to know about you. Is that clear?” Joseph said as their spokesperson.

“Yes sir” Everyone answered and Joseph laughed

“Relationship status nkor?” the darkest among the guys asked.

“Okay, then we will be adding our relationship status. So I will be starting, then we move from my right-hand side, we will end with Fehintola on my left-hand side” He explained.

"Okay," They answered.

“My name is Joseph James, they call me Jay-Jay, I’m the second of three children, I’m from Anambra state, I love singing and playing string instruments, and I studied Civil Engineering at Babcock University. Thank you”

“Nice one bro, relationship status no enter?” Sam asked

“Let this ladies know if there’s a room or not,  sisters am I making sense” Another guy came again, the ladies did not answer, they were just laughing, even though they were all interested in knowing Joseph’s relationship status, he’s the most handsome and brilliant among the guys. Coupled with the fact that he’s from a rich home.

“Joseph, tell us your relationship status now,” Chidinma, the eldest among the ladies said, She’s married, so everyone in the house respects her.

“Ok, I’m single and not searching” Joseph answered.

“Meaning there’s no vacancy?” Samuel asked

“None at all."

“Okay, My name is Alesanmi Taiwo Samuel, I love it when you call me Sam, I love playing musical instruments, and I love dancing, I’m from Edo state, and I studied law at the University of Ibadan.   I’m single and not searching.”

“My name is Osagie Harry aka Omoh, I love reading novels, I studied English at Kwara state university, and I’m engaged”

“Glory!” Sam said and everyone laughed

“I’m Richard Ogan, I’m from delta state, I love dancing, I studied mathematics education at “University of Benin, I’m single”

“I’m Peter, I’m from Anambra state, I love drawing, I studied Civil engineering at Lead City University"

Peter is the most troublesome guy in the lodge, he derives pleasure in looking for people's trouble.

“I’m Alesanmi Kehinde Grace, I love being called Kenny, I studied Agricultural  Economics and Extension at University of Ibadan, I’m from Edo state, and I love reading gospel stories and listening to music, that’s my twin brother over there,” She said pointing at Sam

“Oh.. that’s great,” Fehintola said. She loves twins a lot, she always imagined she had a twin sister, but as that didn’t happen, she’s been praying to God to give her a set of twins as children, though she prefers those of the same sex. Then she started looking from Sam to Kenny, she didn’t notice any form of resemblance.

“You are thinking we don’t look alike, right?” Sam said trying to read her mind.

“Don’t mind us jare I look like dad while she looks like mom, I’m black, she’s fair, I’m playful, she’s reserved, I’m tall, she’s short, I’m handsome while she’s ugly” He said and winked at his sister while everyone laughed, Kenny joined in the laughter, because even a blind man could tell that Kenny is the finer one among the twins.

“Dey give yourself hope,” Joseph said.

“Be sincere, am I not handsome?” Sam said facing Fehintola.

“Of cause, you are,” Fehintola said looking serious and everyone laughed at her seriousness.

Sam is truly handsome because he has this unique blackness, he’s ebony black with pink lips, and he has this height, he’s also funny, which makes everyone around him love him.

“I’m Mike Juliet Geraldine, I’m from Imo state, I studied English language at the Ekiti State University, I love dancing, I’m single, and I’m the most beautiful girl here." She said pouting

“Who dash you most beautiful?” The Hausa lady asked raising her brow.

“I weak oo” Kenny replied.

Juliet is truly the most beautiful, even though her beauty is of less value, she slept with most of the guys at the orientation camp.

“I’m Edwin Winifred, I’m from Imo state, and I love reading, playing games, and surfing the internet, I studied Microbiology at Ekiti State University, I’m single."

Winifred is the social media freak in the lodge, she’s always online, and she's always the first to get information, she's also the most gentle and easy-going member of the lodge.

“I’m Bello Hamzat, I’m from Kaduna state,  call me Sarah, I love dancing and watching movies, I studied the only course with the 'three Es'  Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the number 1, premiere university which is the prestigious University of Ibadan" Sarah flung her hair to the back and everyone laughed. Sarah loves hyping her course and school so much, and they are all used to it.

“Sorry, how come you are Hamzat and Sarah, I’m confused,” Fehintola asked.

“I’m from a Muslim family, I gave my life to Christ when I was in 200 level, so I changed my name but I couldn’t change it on my credentials, so formally I’m still Hamzat, but physically or informally, I don’t even know the English to put, Sam borrow me that English”

“Ask Omoh, nah Law I study,” Sam said and everyone laughed.

“Just call me Sarah,” She said and everyone laughed.

“I’m Chidinma Okafor, you can call me Chi-Chi or Chi, I’m from Anambra  State, I studied food science at Anambra State University, I love cooking, playing games, and going out.  I’m married with two beautiful girls, they are twins.

“Awwnnn..” Fehintola blushed.

“Chi-Chi God bless you, you are the only one that mentioned cooking, others just dey talk reading, dancing, shey na book we wan chop?” Omoh attacked the ladies.

“Where’s this coming from?” Sarah asked, “Hobby is different from what you know how to do, the fact that we didn’t mention cooking doesn’t  mean we don’t know how to cook, have you been the one cooking for us since we came to this lodge, and  besides what stopped you from mentioning cooking too, is it only a woman that should know how to cook?”

“Calm down Sarah,” Joseph said.

“Uhn….all these feminists sha” Richard said.

“This is not about feminism” Sam defended Sarah “Hobby is different from what you know how to do best, besides pesin wey study food science, why she no go like cooking, she went to polytechnic  for two  years and spent four years in university, she learned how to cook for six years, six years no be beans na, so don’t compare others with her, she don even marry join”

“Sam, it’s me that learned how to cook for six years abi” Chi-Chi said feigning anger

“No vex na, someone cannot play with you”

“Over to you Fehintola,” Joseph said trying to cut the joke short.

“My name is Fehintola Adewale, call me Tola for short, I’m from Osun state, I studied Zoology at the University of Ilorin, I love singing, reading, writing, and hunting, I’m single and not searching”

“Wait, you studied zoology, how you take reason that course?” Omoh asked surprised and Fehintola smiled.

“That was the course given to me, and along the line, I fell in love with it, even though I still have it in mind to go for a second degree.”
“And what’s that?”
“Medicine”

“Sorry, how old are you? When will you graduate?” Juliet cut in

“It doesn’t matter, age shouldn't stop you from chasing your dream” Chidinma encouraged her.

“Thank you ma” She smiled.

“Wait, you chose medicine, and you were given zoology? Nigerian universities ehn..” Sam said laughing and others joined talking about their experience with Nigerian universities.

“You said you like hunting, what do you hunt?”
“Animals”
“Thank God it’s not human being, I for just pack comot for this lodge,” Peter said.

“You also said you love writing, what do you write?”

"Gospel stories"

“Wow!” I will love to read some of your books” Kenny said happily.

“No problem ma” she smiled back

“And one more thing, there are some people whose duty is to annoy others in this lodge, they don’t mean to annoy you, they are just joking, so please try not to get angry, I believe as time goes on, you will get used to everyone,” Joseph said.

“Thank you, sir,” Fehintola said maintaining her smile, she understood what Joseph just said.

“Please enough of this sir and ma, we are all mates here please” Joseph pleaded.

“That’s Yoruba people for you, dey too like respect, tomorrow morning she will kneel to greet you,” Sam said and everyone laughed again.

“Sam, don’t talk again, please” Chidinma pleaded.

“Ok ma” Sam used his finger to hold his lips.

“Now, we come to the end of this meeting, Sam please pray for us”

Sam led them in a prayer session for twenty minutes, and Fehintola saw a different Sam from the one who has been cracking jokes since she came in, she saw a prayerful man, and she was amazed.

After praying, Sarah took Tola to her room.

“Here’s our room, you are welcome once again”

“Thanks, dear,” Fehintola said looking around the room as it is neatly arranged.

“Make yourself comfortable.” Sarah smiled.

"Thank you" Tola smiled back.
