" ONCE UPON A TIME "

"Shut Up! Shut up...I have had enough of your talk..." The driver screamed at both men
The driver got down from the car, went to the boot of the car. He had heard enough of the Pastor's talk and from his observation he could see he was already making the charm on the other passenger to lose effect.
He brought out the duct tape from the trunk.
" I have heard enough
of your nonsense." The driver said as he taped Pastor Greg's mouth. He knew the charm had paralysed them, hence he couldn't move his hand against him.
" Let's see how your God will save you when we get to the village." He said
He walked back to the driver's seat...
" If you try anything funny, I will do same to you " He said to Rogers... "By the way, do you know each other, he was talking like he knew you from somewhere"
Rogers shook his head in the negative..

Kemisola was close to Atan in Ogun state. She knew if she drove any further, she could pass out...
" I need you to come drive!"
" Finally! I know you have been struggling for the past few hours but your strong head was bent of punishing you" Harry mocked
" Are you driving or not?'' Kemisola asked
" I will drive...since we are talking , I want to ask if you have your passports ..I mean for both of you, I have mine and Rachel's." Harry said
Kemisola was dumb struck. It just dawned on her, they were going to need Passports, but how did he quickly arrange Rachel's passport?
" How did you arrange a passport for her so quickly?" Kemisola asked as she was suspecting foul play
" All my girls have passports. I make sure they get it, but the Passports are always in my custody."
" Hmm..." Kemisola nodded mockingly
"You still haven't answered my question?"
" Which is?"
" Your passports?" Harry said referring to Kemi and Janet. He had kept quiet about the Passport issue hoping it would be the last card he would play. He knew they would be sent back at the border.
" We don't have our Passports here, but I know we will have to pay our way through.I have heard there are illegal ways of entering the country, at least we know that some of the vehicles we use are illegally transported from Cotonou to Nigeria..." Kemisola said
Harry knew he had lost the war.. The woman was definitely street wise.
Kemisola gave a smug little smile.
" This guy doesn't even know who he is playing with." Kemisola shook her head in pity for Harry.

The driver had enjoyed few minutes of silence after duct taping Pastor Greg. He had about an hour drive to his destination.
About Five minutes earlier, he had gotten off the main road and was driving at a slow pace in the bush. He was used to the path he and his co-workers took every two days. The road had no defined path, but they had marked some of the trees as landmarks...
In the silence, he was able to give a thought to his wife and his three daughters.
" I am doing this for you girls. I am not a monster, this is my only option" he said inwardly.
This was his usual anthem; a form of ritual he was committed to. It was a way of purging himself of the daily guilt that beleaguered his sanity.
" Clack! Clack!" was the sound that knocked him out of his regretful thoughts.
" What's that?" The driver said out loud looking out the window. His passengers also looked faint- hearted as they nervously looked out their windows...
The driver saw nothing unusual...
" Must be one of those bush animals, calm down, your death is not now!" the driver said, ending his statement with a devilish laughter. He wanted his terrible humour to sink in; so he looked back at Pastor Greg's face mockingly....
"Pai!" Another sound the driver didn't see coming...
The steering immediately became stiff in his hands....
" My God!" The driver said
Though Pastor Greg's heart was about shredding to a million pieces, he couldn't help but be taken aback at the words of the driver...
" My God!" Pastor Greg couldn't help but smile briefly...
" Even the devil calls on God for help, no wonder the
devil also appeared before God in the book of Job. No creature can do without God." Pastor Greg thought as he looked around.
" The...t..yreeee
Moments earlier, he had seen a Spike strip ahead on the ground. He wanted to alert the driver but that was the moment he said the poignant statement of them being killed soon.
" If we are to die, you also can as well die with us" Rogers had decided..He suspected the spike strip could be the forest guards at work...
" Egungun lon ri" ( The masquerade is the one walking)...The driver had said; it was the coded statement they had been taught to say to the forest guards whenever apprehended.
The driver gently got down from the vehicle looking around for the sign of any human but he could not see anyone.
