MY SECRET 3
MY SECRET 3
True to my husband's statement, my brother-in-law the father of my kids, was at home. I thought that he was in Kano because that was what he told me the last time I went to his house to see his new bride.
When my husband disappeared into the room to change his clothes, I disappeared into the kitchen to claim that I was hungry but I did that so that I could speak with my brother-in-law.
"Achebe? What is going on?" The truth is, I have always known Achebe since our NYSC days. We served together and we were best friends. But somehow, I ended up with his brother because his elder brother who happens to be my husband was a focused and wealthy man. Achebe was focused too but he wasn't as wealthy as his brother besides, my mother told me that older men took care of their wives the most. That was why I married Charles, my husband. He was fifteen years older than me. And so when he started to complain about his waist in bed or whenever I needed him to act as a husband, or run around with me in the house like I use to see in the movies, he wouldn't! Instead, he would say that he was too tired and that work was stressful until I realized that he had low libido. Which was why I started seeing Achebe.
Achebe knows how to roughen a woman. It was risky at first, but then, I enjoyed it and thought that nobody would know. But now...
"I have no idea what is happening. My brother came back from the hospital with smiles on his face." He whispered.
"Did you see the DNA result?" I whispered back. I could hear my heart beating wildly
"Yes. I did. I stole a look at it when he dropped it carelessly on the dining table. It is 100% his." He stood akimbo.
"I don't understand how it can be 100% his because the last time I checked, those kids are yours." I was confused.
"I also do not understand and that was why I wanted to ask you if you cheated on me with my brother." He was angry and I felt like smacking his head against the kitchen wall tiles. One of the tiles had been removed. I was going to tell Mr. Emeka the gap-toothed tiler to re-fix it otherwise I would fix a tooth in the large gap between his two canines.
"You must be crazy Achebe. I'm your brother's legal wife! If there's anyone who is cheating here, then it should be you!" I half-yelled.
He laughed. "You and I know that you are the callous bitch who started it."
"Started what?" Charles strolled into the kitchen with his phone in his hand. "What are you people even talking about?"
"Nothing o! I quickly shifted towards the refrigerator and grabbed a glass cup from the counter.
"Okay, since there is nothing can you please call your sister with your phone? Her number isn't going through."
I nodded stiffly and rushed to drink the water. I finished and was about to leave the kitchen when my husband made a heart-racing statement.
"Achieve, please take my car key from the dining table. Go to Wazobia park. Mama and 4 of our kinsmen will be arriving from Enugu today." Then he turned to me. "Darling would you like catfish Pepper Soup and boiled yam for dinner?" He asked.
I froze, Achebe's jaw dropped open.
"Wait, what are mama and the kinsmen coming to do here in Abuja? Is somebody getting married? Because the last time I checked I'm married." Achebe said.
Charles ignored him. I quickly left the kitchen to dial my sister's number maybe she would understand all the drama going on with my husband. If the DNA result came out positive then what could be the problem?
As Achebe was about to leave the house, I called him to ask what I have been itching to ask all this while. "I thought you say you were traveling to Kano instead and you are here with your phone lying at the back of my husband's car?"
"My phone is there? You mean that the phone I have been looking for is in his car?" He rushed away from me and rushed off just before I could call him back.
What was going on?
