MORE THAN A CARVING
CHAPTER 12
CHAPTER 12
Three months into the new friendship, Iwalade and Imisi had grown so close so much that Imisioluwa stop by at her place everyday whenever he’s coming from home, he will always stop at Iwalade’s place first before going home. They cook together, eat together, and then they go into the business of the night which is discussing about the company. Imisioluwa knew he had some enemies in that company who wanted to bring him down. One of his Uncles, Uncle Jonathan who is one of the black sheeps of the family has connived with some of the board members and they have plotted a graph on how to bring him down. With the help of Iwalade, Imisioluwa is always on top of their game. The one that needed physical solution, they’ll give it and the one that needed spiritual attention; they equally face the problem spiritually. Mrs. Williams had been fighting this battle all alone and even got tired but now that Iwalade has come into the picture she had been relieved and couldn’t help but thank God for bringing Iwalade into her life and that of her son. There was one incidence that happened that almost cost Imisioluwa his life. On that fateful day, he got to the office and prayed first, that was what Iwalade had taught him. ‘Before you sit down at all, once you get to your office, pray and plead the blood of Jesus.’ She had told him. So on this fateful day, Imisioluwa prayed, pleaded the blood of Jesus on the office and sat down but to his surprise, ten minutes later, the whole of his body system started changing, he wanted to talk, he couldn’t, he wanted to stand he couldn’t and before he knew it, one part of his body is already paralysed. Since one hand was still functioning, he struggled to get the phone to call his secretary but changed his mind and called Iwalade instead. “Iwalade….” He said slowly with a very low pitch, he was virtually forcing the words out of his mouth. “What’s wrong with you, why are you talking like an imbecile?” Iwalade joked not aware of what was going on with him. “I think that is what I’m turning into right now.” He said slowly and dragging his words then Iwalade became scared. “Talk to me what’s going on over there.” “One part of my body is paralyzed Iwalade. Finally, they got me.” “Nobody can get you, oya start pleading the blood of Jesus; I’ll start praying over here. It’s a spiritual attack, don’t worry this is just for you to see the signs of the evil these people plotted but God has already given you victory.” “I should plead….” “Yes, start pleading the blood of Jesus; drink it, just the way I taught you. You will be fine in Jesus name.” “Okay.” He said and ended the call. He started praying and pleading the blood of Jesus. Iwalade too stood up from the bed. She started walking to and fro her room, interceding for Imisioluwa. Iwalade had a dream the previous week that Imisi’s Uncle will plot something big but God had already given him victory, what they are just seeing now is a sign. Thirty minutes later, Iwalade was still praying and sweating profusely, and then her phone rang. It was Imisioluwa so she quickly picked up the call. “Imisi, how are you?” She asked hurriedly. “I’m fine. My body is now back to normal; I can now stand and talk properly.” He said and she shouted praise God and he replied “Halleluyah.” “I’ll dress up now; I’m on your way to your office. I’m coming over to check on you.” She said. “IB, I’m fine, I’ll see you in the evening.” “No, I can’t wait till evening, I’ll come over. One more thing my spirit just told me something now.” “What is that?” Imisi asked. “Don’t leave your office. That wicked Uncle of yours will come to check if his charms worked on you.” Iwalade instructed. “Okay, I’ll do just that.” He replied. “I’ll see you soon.” She said and the line went off. True to Iwalade’s words, Uncle Jonathan showed up in Imisioluwa’s office. He greeted Imisi’s secretary, Bella, and she quickly stood up to acknowledge him. “Is your boss in the office?” Uncle Jonathan asked. “Yes sir.” “He didn’t call you for anything?” He asked slyly. “No sir.” The secretary answered still wondering while he was asking such questions. “And you didn’t hear anything strange in his office.” He asked again. “No sir, let me tell him you are here sir.” Bella said. “No need for that.” Uncle Jonathan said, he was so sure that Imisioluwa would either be dead or paralyzed by now. Uncle Jonathan walked majestically into Imisioluwa’s office but he got the shock of his life. Immediately his eyes met with Imisoluwa he screamed, fell and went into shock. Bella who heard the scream and rushed into the office, joined Imisioluwa, both tried to help Uncle Jonathan up to no avail. Bella called for help and other staff also rushed in to help, then they decided to rush him to the hospital, some staff went with him but Imisioluwa did not leave his office. After the coast was cleared, Imisioluwa couldn’t help but thank God, he was in tears when doing this because, he wouldn’t have made it if not for God’s intervention. He even thought of resigning as the CEO, so as to save his life. Heknew his Uncle wanted him dead because of the position; this was the same Uncle who told the board members that he was an illegitimate child despite the fact that they had a DNA test conducted while he was a baby; he still believed that the result was falsified. Imisioluwa went into the bathroom to clean up, soon after, Iwalade showed up at his office, she was wearing a nose mask, she removed it as the two hugged each other and then he released her. “Finally, you are here after all these while that I’ve been asking you to come.” Imisioluwa said. “This is a matter of life and death and that is why I showed up.” “God use you for me today, I don’t know the state I would have been by now.” “All thanks to God.” She said and took a close look at him as she sat before him. “Have you been crying?” “IB, I’m tired. How long will I continue to fight this people?” “God has already given you victory, so you are not quitting your position.” “Uncle Jonathan has been rushed to the hospital.” He informed. “That’s because what he did backfired.” “You know you told me not to leave my office.” “Yes, Holy Spirit said so not me.” “Okay, I did just that, and then my Uncle walked into my office unannounced, immediately he saw me on seat, he screamed and went into shock.” Imisioluwa explained. “You see, God has already given you victory and if that man refused to back off from your case, he’ll die an untimely death in Jesus name.” “Amen! I can’t wait to tell Mum everything that happened when I get home.” “Poor woman, she will just be crying.” Iwalade said sadly. “Reason why I didn’t call her but called you instead. Imagine, these people have been on our case right from when I was born. You are aware nau; mum told me she told you.” “It is well. Ehm…I need you to leave the office for today. Can you do that for me?” Iwalade asked. “IB, I’m fine, seriously.” “I know, let’s just go home. You know people would have heard of what happened, I don’t want them to meet you on seat, also I want you to rest for today.” “If you insist, I’ll leave then.” “Good.”“What can I offer you?” “Not today, maybe some other time.” “Okay. How do we move?” Imisioluwa inquired. “I came in my car.” “Hmm….Let’s take your car then. I’ll have them bring my car over to the house.” “Okay, let’s go.” “I’ll drive.” He offered. “No way, you will relax in the car while I drive. You think I just came all the way here for nothing.” “Alright, as your lordship pleases.” He said and they both smiled, he took his nose mask and the two left the office. He gave Bella one or two instructions and they left, the two masked up. ******* Things went back to normal again, Imisioluwa and Iwalade’s friendship got deeper and deeper. He is always at her place whenever he returns from work. Iwalade also visits his house but she actually went there to see his mum and not Imisi himself. Iwalade visited Mrs. Williams on a Sunday evening, she asked after Imisioluwa and his mum told her he has gone out to see a friend. Imisioluwa really felt like hanging out with a friend that Sunday evening since work had been hectic lately, so he needed the time out to cool off. Earlier that day, Imisi had told Iwalade to hang out with him but she turned the offer down with the excuse that she was coming over to see his mum in the evening. Mrs. Williams and Iwalade were so engrossed in their discussion that they didn’t realize it was past 9:00pm. Iwalade announced she was leaving and the woman stood up to see her off and they heard a car entered into the compound. “That should be Imisi.” Mrs. Williams said but Iwalade wasn’t happy that Imisi met her in the house. She knew he felt bad for declining his request earlier. Imisioluwa entered the house and met the two as they were about to step outside. He greeted his mum and turned to Iwalade. “Good evening IB.” “IB!” Mrs. Williams exclaimed. “What in God’s name does that mean?” She asked her son. “Iwalade Badmus.” “Jesus, so you had to abbreviate her name! For what gangan!” Mrs. Williams gestured with her hands. “Oh…..Mum, that’s what I call her.” “Haa….when did you start disrespecting your elders, so you cannot call her Aunty Iwalade, right.”When Iwalade realized Mrs. Williams wouldn’t stop dragging the issue, she had to come in. “Ma, I was the one who gave him the permission to do that, honestly he never meant to disrespect me or something.” Iwalade defended him. “Now, you are siding with him, right.” “Let him be nau…..oya; let’s go ma shebi you want to see me off.” She said and quickly took Mrs. Williams’right hand. “Thanks IB. Mummy can be dramatic.” He said. “That IB again!” Mrs. Williams said but Iwalade who was still holding her right hand quickly turned to the door, Mrs. Williams turned too as they walked towards the door but before they step out, Iwalade turned back to look at Imisioluwa and mouthed “I’m sorry.” She was actually apologizing for turning down the hangout. “It’s okay. I’ll call you.” He mouthed with no words coming out too, they only read each other’s lips and she smiled, she knew she has been forgiven. Mrs. Williams was unaware of what quickly transpired between the two. Though she knew those two are now very close. ******* Few weeks later, on a Saturday, Mrs. Williams left the house that morning for a wedding party she had to attend. Left in the house was Imisioluwa and Nike, their domestic staff. Imisioluwa was in his room bathing, while in the shower, he heard someone opened the door of the bathroom, he was backing the bathroom door, so by the time he turned slightly to see who it was, and it was Nike. He was shocked to the bone. “Nike, are you sick or something?” He said and quickly covered himself up with a tower despite the fact that he still had foams all over his body. “It’s just you and I in the house, so calm down.” She said subtly. “Calm down! Nike, get out now.” “And if I don’t.” “Seriously, you know I’ve tolerated you enough in this house. What exactly do you want from me?” “You know what I want, you know how much I love you but you kept pushing me away.” “How many times will I tell you that I don’t feel the same way about you?” “That is because you see me as an ordinary domestic staff.” “Nike, God knows and you know that I never treated you like one before, you are the one who made me build a wall between us with this lust of yours.”“Lust! You call what I feel for you lust.” “Enough of exchanging words with you. Now get out!” He ordered loudly, she shivered and then ran out. He followed after her and locked his bedroom door and then went back into the bathroom to finish up his bathing.
